The Missouri Civil War Museum in St. Louis is a non-profit educational organization that was founded in 2013 and stands as Missouri’s largest Civil War museum, library, and educational center. Since it opened, this museum has become one of the largest Civil War museums in the nation, with a focus entirely on Missouri’s role in the American Civil War. Located within the Jefferson Barracks Historic Site, this is one of the most sacred and historically-significant sites in all of Missouri for its role in the Civil War.
This 22,000-square-foot museum is filled with over 1,000 artifacts and films. Every gallery tells a unique story of Missouri’s role in the American Civil War. Exhibits include the Pre-War Gallery, Colonel John Emerson Main Gallery, Hollywood and the Civil War Exhibit, Jefferson Barracks Through the Years Exhibit, Theater, Civil War on the Western Border Exhibit, The Medal of Honor Exhibit, and the Grand Army of the Republic and United Confederate Veterans Gallery. In addition, this museum features several films to watch, including a 25-minute movie on the war on the Western Border and in Eastern Missouri.

For families looking for outdoor fun, Arnold City Park is an excellent option. This fun 68-acre park features an 8-acre fishing lake, 4 pavilions, electricity, and barbecue pits. This park also has restrooms (a must for families with young kids!), a playground, a paved ½ mile walking and hiking trail, 2 dirt multipurpose fields, 2 horseshoe pits, volleyball poles, and fishing in an 8-acre lake. There are endless possibilities for outdoor fun at Arnold City Park.
Families hosting special events at this park can also reserve a pavilion. Reservations can be made for any of the 4 pavilions by contacting the Parks and Recreation Department by phone. Reservations can be made up to one year in advance. Families must pay a refundable deposit. Additionally, pavilions can seat anywhere from 45 to 160 guests. Each pavilion features at least one barbecue pit, as well as electricity hookups. From birthday parties to family reunions, Arnold City Park is a great venue for life’s special events.
